David Roth

David Wayne Roth, age 76 of Vassar, passed away Monday, November 5, 2018. In accordance with David’s wishes, cremation has taken place, with a private burial at Riverside Cemetery in Vassar to be held at a later date. A celebration of his life is planned for Sunday, December 2nd, 2018 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Richville Fire Department Hall at 9441 W Saginaw Rd, Richville, MI 48758. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family. David was born in Saginaw on February 6, 1942. He was the son of Wayne Roth and Gladys Blackmore (née Curtis). As the owner and operator of Vassar Rebuilders for 17 years (1980-1997), he worked closely with the local industrial and farming communities. However, he spent most of his life as a Truck Driver, enthusiastically racking up over 4 million miles of driving experience throughout the 1960s, 70s, and later 90s-00s. He retired from trucking in 2010. He married the love of his life, Stella Hudeck, on June 17, 1967, in Vassar, Michigan. Together they traveled across the U.S. and Canada, making the trek into Alaska by road on three occasions. In David’s spare time, he enjoyed drinking coffee with family and friends at the Half-Way Truck Stop and considered himself an “advanced amateur photographer.” His photographs have been exhibited in several stores and libraries within the local area and published in local newspapers such as the Vassar Pioneer Times. His early work in the 1960s included school sports coverage as well as wedding, family, and town photography. He could be most often seen capturing the sunsets and flowers of the Vassar countryside. Left to cherish his memory are: wife, Stella; daughter, Lisa and husband Merle Hochthanner; son, Scott Roth four grandchildren: Nichole, Lauren, Nathan, and Brianna; three siblings: Cheryl and husband Don Louks, Ron Roth, and Rich Blackmore; in-laws: John Hudeck and wife Brenda, Rose Hudeck, Mary Hudeck and husband Steve Meade, and Gerri Hudeck; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. David was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ruth Ann Roth, brother Fred Roth, and brothers-in-law: Raymond and Rudy Hudeck, and Richard Manwell, and sister-in-law Eileen West.
