Christopher "Chris" Kaufman

Age 34, of Battle Creek, died Monday, February 15, 2016, at his home. A Celebration of Life service will be held 12:30 pm, February 23, 2016, at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Grand Blanc with burial to follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Chris’ family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends on Monday, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, and Tuesday, from 10:00 am until time of service at 12:30 pm. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to the family. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Chris was born April 8, 1981, in Flint, the son of Mr. & Mrs. John and Rebecca (Rau) Kaufman. Chris graduated from Southwestern High School, Class of 1999. He continued his education at Mott Community College, U of M – Flint and Davenport University earning his Associates degree. Chris proudly served in the United States Army from February 18, 2000, until receiving his honorable discharge on February 17, 2002. Earning Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (2nd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Expert Marksmanship, and Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar. From there, he continued to serve his country in the National Guard from July 23, 2004, until receiving his honorable discharge on June 30, 2007. Left to cherish his memory are: his parents, John and Rebecca Kaufman; sister, Melissa Kaufman; niece, Tianna, two nephews: Kyle and Matthew; and many other family members and friends. Chris was preceded in death by his grandparents: Keith and Mavis Rau, two uncles: Bill and Mike and his aunt Patty.
