Of Mt. Morris, age 90, died Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Grand Blanc Rehab and Nursing Center. The funeral service will take place 2:00pm, Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris. Pastor Dale Lewis will officiate with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park with military honors conducted by the Clio American Legion Post #158. CharlieAaas family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:00am until 2:00pm and 4:00pm until 8:00pm and again on Wednesday from 12:00pm until the time of service at 2:00pm. Those desiring, may direct memorial contributions to Carriage Town Ministries or the Clio American Legion Post #158. Charlie was born August 22, 1918 in Detroit, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Belle (Weber) Vert. He and Thelma Carlson were united in marriage on December 27, 1941 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Charlie was a proud World War II veteran, serving with the 339th Fighter Squadron in the Army Air Force. Upon returning home, he went back to work at AC Spark Plug as the first serviceman returning under the point system and retired in 1975 after 40 years of service. Charlie was also a beekeeper and was known around the Mt. Morris area for selling honey out of his home. He enjoyed an active, independent retirement of traveling, gardening and spending time with family and friends. Left to cherish his memory are his children; Charles and wife Anna Vert of Birch Run, Susan and husband Buz Nolff of Flint, Edward Vert of Huber Heights, Ohio and Thomas and wife Angela Vert of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Jennifer and husband Rick Cunningham, Kerri and husband Jim McGowan, Kris and wife Dawn Vert, Melissa and husband Greg Wander, Greg Vert, Laura Vert and Ellen Vert; ten great-grandchildren, Adam, Seth, Jonathan, James, Trevor, Hunter, Mackenzie, Haley, Amanda and Erika and brother, Andrew and wife Maxine Vert. Charlie is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Thelma on September 12, 2000; grandson, Adam; sister, Isabel Schafer and brothers, Robert and William Vert.
