Age 65, of Mount Morris, died Monday, September 21, 2015 at McLaren-Flint. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at 6:00 PM at First Baptist Church-Mt Morris. Pastor Kevin Dixon will be officiating. There will be a visitation from 5:00 PM until time of service. Those desiring to make memorial contributions in Charles’ name may make them to the Opera Company of Brooklyn or the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be made available at the church. Mr. Harburn was born December 2, 1949 in Flint, MI. He is the son of Harold George (deceased) and Margaret Ellen (McGuffin) Harburn. He is a graduate of Mount Morris High School, Class of 1967. While in high school Charles would apprentice as an Electrician. In 1969, Charles was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War and would continue to work as an electrician for the army until 1971. He would then use his on the job electrician skills and degree from Detroit Business College to own and operate Harburn Electric for 5 years. Charles went on to become co-owner of Zodiac Enterprises in Mt Morris after their expansion in 2008. He was also the General Manager of the Opera Company of Brooklyn, New York from 2000 until his passing. Charles will be remembered most for being a people person, his devotion to his mother and to his family, and his love for business. Charles is survived by his life partner: Robert Johannis; mother: Margaret Ellen (McGuffin) Harburn; two brothers: George and wife Christy Harburn, and Dennis Harburn; sister: Kathryn and Husband, Larry Bieling; Nieces and Nephews: Shanna, Matthew, Ellen, Daniel, Damien, Kerry, Julia, and Lauren; and nine great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.
