Educated locally, Betty graduated from Flint Central High School with the Class of 1947. Set up on a blind date, Betty met and married the love of her life James Nelson, on June 16, 1951, in Flint, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Sadly, he preceded her in death on May 15, 2004. Betty worked briefly at the Tank Plant in Grand Blanc before starting her career as a homemaker. Betty enjoyed camping at the Harrisville State Park. Upon retirement, Betty and Jim moved to Orlando, FL., and Harrisville where they bought a piece of property and built a little bungalow house so they could live on the water, but eventually, they found their way back to Grand Blanc where they spent their lives together. Baking was one of her special skills, with her apple pies always being a hit at family gatherings. Betty enjoyed playing the organ, painting with watercolors, crocheting, knitting, and needlepoint. She will be greatly missed. Betty leaves to cherish her memory her son, David and wife, Ana Bosque Nelson, daughter, Linda and husband, Boyd Skellenger; sister, Carolyn Forbush; grandchildren: Tim and Katie Skellenger, Bill and Susan Skellenger, Gabriela and Alex Saliwanchik, Lexi Nelson, Andrea Nelson, 5 great-grandchildren.
