Barbara Hall

February 23, 1960 — December 19, 2012

Of Clio, age 52, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at North Cypress Medical Center in Houston, Texas. The funeral service will take place 11:00 am, January 3, 2013, at Bethany United Methodist Church in Clio. Revered John Bailey will officiate with burial to follow at Thetford Township Cemetery. Barbara's family will be present at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris on Wednesday January 2, 2013, from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm. Thursday morning, Barbara will be taken to the church to lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of funeral at 11:00 am. Barbara was born February 23, 1960, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Alva and Ruth Arlene Ackerman. She attended Clio High School graduating with the Class of 1978. Barbara participated in the Clio High School Band as well as the Central Michigan University Marching Band; she enjoyed playing the Flute and Piccolo. She was the Honor Queen for Jobs Daughters of Bethel #33 her senior year. She then received her Bachelors in Fine Arts from Central Michigan University in 1983, Bachelors of Language Arts from University of Michigan in 1988, then her Masters of Science in Education from University of Houston in 2005; she was also a Certified Bilingual Administrator. Barbara began her almost 30 year career as a language arts teacher in the Flint Community Schools. She enjoyed the rest as a teacher at Deer Park ISD in Texas. She deeply loved traveling especially to Europe. She particularly loved her travels to France and Spain. She was fluent in English, Spanish, and French. She had the gift of teaching and also had a special place in her heart for music and her cats. She was a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Shannon Ersel Hall; her son-in-law, Ken McNeil Hooper; granddaughter, Mackenzie Grace Hooper; parents, Robert Alvah (Donna) and Ruth Arlene Ackerman; brother, Paul Allen Ackerman; two cousins, Donnie and Jeff Roschenberger; two nephews, Ross Ackerman and Todd Ackerman; aunt, Betty Correa; great-aunt, Marjorie Huff; Mr. & Mrs. Robert Sanborn, and numerous second and third cousins. Barbara was preceded in death on April 1, 2011, by her husband George Jones, and Grandparents Frank L.B. Ackerman and June Elva Ackerman, and Alfred and Mae Marshall.
