Of Vassar, age 84, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Covenant Medical Center - Harrison. The funeral service will take place 11:00 am Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at the Greater Ephesians Church of God in Christ in Vassar. Superintendent Harold Jones will officiate with burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery. Family will be present to receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar 4:00pm until 8:00pm on Monday. On Tuesday Augusta will be taken to church where friends may call from 10:00am until time of service at 11:00am. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Greater Ephesians C.O.G.I.C. in Vassar. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Augusta was born April 28, 1925 in Issaquena County, Mississippi. She and Albert Murphy, Sr. were united in marriage in Issaquena County, Mississippi in 1942. She attended Adult Education Classes at night in Saginaw. Augusta retired from Eaton Foundry in Vassar after about 28 years. She was a member of the Greater Ephesians Church of God in Christ in Vassar where she served as President of the Usher Board and was Advisor to the Pastor and also served on the MotherAaas Board. Augusta enjoyed going to church and ministering to others, gardening and flowers, her dogs and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Augusta leaves to cherish her memory her children Albert Jr. and wife Marilyn Murphy of Las Vegas, NV; Doris and husband Ernest Wafer of Saginaw; Della Murphy of Saginaw; Alfred (Woodrow) Murphy of Vassar and Lesley Renee Murphy of Saginaw, grandchildren Desma Carter (Markus Sr.), Sophronia Sparks (Charles Sr.), Sheldon Murphy, Brandon Murphy (Rozina), E. Lance Wafer (Tiemeka), Preston Murphy (Maria), Tonica Murphy, Justin Murphy (Temeka), Alfred Murphy, Jr., (Crystal Grayson); great-grandchildren Markus; Journee; Charles; D'Ante; Brandon Jr.; Britney; Jordan; Jaylen; Sheldon Jr.; Eli; Ethan; Preston Jr.; Peyton; Chase; LaAaaNaya; Justice; DeAaaQuavion; Marion; Jaquaya; Tyler; E. Lance Jr.; Lance, a host of nieces and nephews, special niece Celestine Simmons, special nephew Willie Diggs, special friends Birder Skinner of Washington D.C., Marilyn Cheatom, Lucy Alexander and Vina Swinton. Augusta was preceded in death by her husband Albert Murphy, Sr. in 2005.
