Of Vassar, age 76 died Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at her home. Amelia was born November 18, 1931 in Florence, Mississippi the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Richard and Annie Belle (South) Whitfield. Amelia married Robert D. Gunnell December 7, 1952 in Florence Mississippi. She was a graduate of Florence, Mississippi High School class of 1949 and received her nurse training at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee class of 1952. Amelia retired from VA Hospital in Saginaw July 8, 1994 and worked part time at the Lutheran Home Care Agency in Frankenmuth. She enjoyed traveling, quilting, reading, and her grandchildren. \ \ \ Surviving are her three children Mary Anne (Ray) Hosler of Freeland, Peggy (Nicholas) Baudean of Memphis, TN, Tom (Sabrina) Gunnell of McDonough, GA; seven grandchildren Jennifer (Charles)Dymond, Samuel, Christian, Alexandra, Ashton, Nicholas Baudean, and Connor Robert Gunnell; two great grandchildren Brandon Dymond and Meredith Dymond; and two sisters Carolyn Henry of Florence, Mississippi and Mary Anna Goodson of Birmingham, AL. and many nieces and nephews.\ She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert and brothers Henry, Richard, Edmond, and John Whitfield and sister Emily Phelps.\ \ \ Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon Friday December 21, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church of Vassar. Rev. John Becker will officiate with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery. Family will be present to receive friends Thursday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and Friday from 11:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 noon.\ Memorial contributions may be considered to First Presbyterian Church in Vassar. Envelopes are available at the church and funeral home.\
