Age 93, of Caro, formerly of Akron, died Tuesday, August 30, 2016, surrounded by her loving family, at Tuscola County Medical Community in Caro. The funeral service will take place 12:00 noon, Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Akron Church of Christ. Lyle Clarke will officiate with burial to follow in Demorest Cemetery. Family will be present to receive friends at Akron Church of Christ on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 noon. Memorial contributions can be directed to Akron Church of Christ or Tuscola County Medical Community Forget-Me-Nots. Envelopes are available at the funeral home or church. AltaMay was born May 2, 1923, in Saginaw, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rex and Verna (Mauger) Griffin. She graduated from Caro High School with the class of 1940. She and Charles owned and operated Briggs Funeral Home in Akron for 49 years and retired in 1991. She was a member of Akron Church of Christ. She was a member of the Akron Women’s Club for 50 years and Michigan Flying Farmers. She enjoyed crafts, reading, and was very active with World Bible School, which is a correspondence school and many of her students were in Nigeria. Left to cherish her memory are children: Mark and wife, Rhonda Briggs, Linda and husband, Maurice White, Diane and husband, Dale Stekl, Wayne Briggs, David Briggs and Laurie Briggs; sister: Margret Montei; sisters-in-law: June Griffin and Shirley Griffin; fourteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Donald, Lawrence, and Russell, sister, Loris and husband, Carson Dunham, and brother-in-law, Paul Montei.
