Of Flint, age 79, died Friday, January 9, 2009 at NathanAaas Place in Swartz Creek. The funeral service will take place 11:00am, Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris. Rev. P.T. Wachterhauser will officiate with private burial in Flint Memorial Park. AlAaas family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm, Monday from 1:00pm until 8:00pm and again on Tuesday from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to NathanAaas Place, the AlzheimerAaas Association or BrianAaas House. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Al was born June 30, 1929 in Flint, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander and Laura (Foodry) Mark. He and Eleanor L. Atkinson were united in marriage on November 10, 1960. Al served during the Korean Conflict with the U.S. Army and also retired from Buick after 34 years of service. He was a member of the EagleAaas 629, Auto City Eagles, Moose Lodge 2344 and Union Local 599. Al loved to bowl and also enjoyed watching all types of sports on TV, especially the Detroit Tigers. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 48 years, Eleanor; daughters, Connie Palmer and husband John Hemingway of Flint and Cathy and Jim Ricketts of Flint; grandchildren, Travis and Miranda Ricketts; brother, Joe and wife Jean Mark; sisters, Marva and husband Gary Aris and MaryElla Walker and sister-in-law, Bessie Hays. Al is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Norma Mark and step-brothers, Dick Hays, Bob Hays and Don Hays. AlAaas family would like to extend a special thank you to Tina and Lloyd Phillips of NathanAaas Place, McLaren Hospice, BrianAaas House and Sherwood Care Facilities for the wonderful care provided to Al.
