Greg was born November 11, 1947, in Flint, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert P. and Helen Jeanette (Johnson) McVannel. Educated locally, he graduated from Grand Blanc High School with the Class of 1965. As a young man, he would meet, fall in love with and be united in marriage to Christine LePard on June 12, 1971, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Blanc. Greg heeded the call of his country and joined the US Army, stationed in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge, his career path would lead him to the automotive industry, where he worked as a toolmaker at Delphi for 40 years, before retiring.  Growing up going to Sage Lake fostered Greg’s love of the outdoors and being on the water. Throughout his life, he loved sailing, fishing, water skiing, snowshoeing and never missed any of the kids sporting events. Has known to be a man that was never lost and a hard worker who loved his family, especially his grandchildren, dearly. He will truly be missed.

Left to cherish his memory are, his wife of 46 years, Christine, four children, Mericlare and husband, Ryan Letter, Bethany McVannel, Peter and wife, Jenny McVannel, Nicholas and wife, Janet McVannel, and five grandchildren, Gregory McVannel, Frances and Ruby McVannel, and Jacob and Bryan McVannel, brothers and sisters, Patti and husband Michael Baadke of Sidney, Ohio, Carol and husband, Dr. John James of Phoenix, Arizona and Jeff McVannel and Lisa of Port Orford, Oregon, and dogs, Miki, Lulu and Tootsie, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Louise.

The family would like to extend a heart felt thanks to the nurses and staff at Reverence Hospice and the Spiritual Care Department at Genesys for the care, compassion, and support shown to them and Greg.
