Obituary of Bessie Ruth (Voorheis) Johnson

Age 86, of Mt. Morris died Sunday, April 23, 2017, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Flint. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at 1:00 pm at Martin Funeral Cremation, and Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Pastor Dave Burkett to officiate with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11:00 am until time of service at 1:00 pm. Those desiring to make memorial contributions in Bessie’s memory may direct them towards Mt. Morris Chapel. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Mrs. Johnson was born June 18, 1930, in Flint to the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred and Bessie (Banks) Voorheis. She and Robert James Johnson were united in marriage on October 10, 1958, in Flint. Bessie was known to her family and friends as an encourager as well as a people person. She enjoyed going on women's retreats every year and going shopping with her daughter, Paula. Bessie also enjoyed listening to hymns, watching game shows, reading, and spending time with her family, fellow church members, and friends. Left to cherish her memory are her husband: Robert James Johnson; daughter Paula and husband, Raymond Barr; sister Clara E. Voorheis; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Bessie is welcomed to heaven by her parents, two sons, two sisters, and five brothers.
