Age 74, of Mt Morris, died Friday, February 10, 2017, at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at 1:00 pm, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services-Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau to officiate with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm, and on Wednesday from 11:00 am until time of service at 1:00 pm. Family and friends will gather to pray the rosary at the funeral home on Tuesday, at 6:00 pm. Those desiring to make memorial contributions in Garth’s memory may direct them towards the family. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Garth was born April 13, 1942, in Mt Morris to the late Mr. and Mrs. William and Wahnetah Lavigne. Garth worked for General Motors for 25 years, and was Assistant Chief on the Mt. Morris Fire Department for 32 years, before entering retirement in 1998. He was on the Kearsley Rescue Squad for 17 years. Garth was a member of UAW Local #599 and St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Garth enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and going to the casino in his free time. Most of all he loved helping others and spending time with his family and friends. Left to cherish his memory are his; two daughters: Leesa and husband, Al Rivera, and Michele Jones; four grandchildren: Erik, David, Matthew, and Jordan; two step grandchildren: Marcus and AJ; eight great-grandchildren: Mhariann, Katelyn, Cambry, Aden, Mason, Matthew, Victoria, and Zelda; girlfriend of eight years, Lisa Lavery; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Lavigne in April of 2006, his parents, his seven older siblings, and son-in-law, William Jones.
