Age 96, of Sterling Heights, died Monday, January 25, 2016 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, surrounded by her family. A Funeral Mass will take place 11:00 am, Saturday, January 30, 2016, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau officiating. Family will be present at the church to receive friends from 10:00am until time of Funeral Mass at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association. Envelopes area available at church. Mildred was born November 12, 1919, in Mitchell, South Dakota, the daughter of the late Omar Oscar and Edna Mae (Davis) Boyd. She married Conrad Alexander Schaffer, Jr. on February 12, 1944. He preceded her in death on September 27, 2013. Mildred attended Baker College for 2 years receiving her bookkeeping degree. In her free time, she enjoyed bowling, golf, knitting, crocheting, reading, and cross-country skiing. Mildred also loved watching and playing sports in her younger years, traveling with her husband all over the U.S., and spending winters in Florida. Left to cherish her memory are: five daughters: Ann Marie Poniatowski, Susan Kay Schaffer, Carol Jean Schaffer, Cheryl Lynn and husband, Timothy Gaffney and Marcia and husband, Donald Lester; nine grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, brother, Bernard and wife, Ilene Boyd and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Conrad; sister, Margaret; six brothers, William, Allen, Ralph, Wayne, Harold and Ronald; and son-in-law, Donald Poniatowski.
